Last year we recycled 34% of our waste. That’s over 8,000 tonnes, or more than the combined weight of the 81,600 people who live in Hyndburn!
Recycling has continued to grow from strength to strength in Hyndburn, and we’ve increased the amount we recycle from 6% to 34% in the five years since the kerbside collection scheme was introduced.
We need to continue this good work and further increase our efforts in order to meet the tough recycling targets. By 2010 we need to recycle over 45% of our domestic waste; or residents could face financial penalties of £150 for every tonne sent to landfill.
